Types of files

Ebook cove

We provide your ebook cover as a JPEG file in RGB color format. You can upload this file to platforms such as Amazon KDP and IngramSpark.

Paperback

We provide your paperback cover as a print-ready PDF with the front and back covers.

Most children’s books have fewer than 50 pages, so they usually don’t have enough pages for text on the spine. If your book has more pages, we can add the title, author name, and subtitle to the spine.

We use the official templates from Amazon KDP and other publishing platforms to create accurate, print-ready cover files.

Hardcover file

We provide your hardcover cover as a print-ready PDF. You can use this file to publish your hardcover through platforms such as IngramSpark.

Amazon KDP requires at least 75 pages for hardcover books, so we often recommend other publishing platforms for shorter children’s books. Tell us which platform you plan to use, and we’ll create the hardcover file according to its specifications.

Character Design (Test-Drive)

Before committing to book cover design service, we offer a main character illustration for just $40. This gives you a chance to see our style and quality first. It’s a simple, risk-free way to ensure we’re the right fit for your children’s picture book.

How it works

1

Share your ideas

Send us the information we need to create your book cover, including the cover size, front-cover illustration idea, book description, author description, author photo, and barcode for the back cover.

2

Create the front-cover illustration

We start with a sketch for the front-cover illustration. You can request revisions until you’re happy with the sketch. Once you approve it, we create the final colored illustration.

3

Add the title, subtitle, and author name

After we finish the cover illustration, we add the book title, subtitle, and author name. You can request revisions to the typography and layout until everything looks right.

4

Prepare the back cover

We create a back cover that matches the front cover’s colors, style, and overall feel. We add your book description and author information, along with the author photo if you want to include one.

We also add the barcode and ISBN to the back cover. You can leave out the author photo or description if you prefer.

5

Upload the files to your publishing platform

We can also help you upload your finished cover files to platforms such as Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and Barnes & Noble. We’ll make sure you have the correct files and formats for your chosen platform.

Let’s discuss your vision first! Every artwork is unique, so please contact us before placing an order. After our consultation, we’ll share a custom order link with the final price.

Analyzing Picture Book Covers on Amazon

One simple way to understand what makes a book cover design effective is to look at the books already selling on Amazon. Spend some time browsing the search results in your book’s category and pay attention to the covers that make you pause while scrolling.

1. What makes a cover stand out to you?

Ask yourself why a book cover caught your eye.

  • Is it the use of bright or playful colors?

  • Is the title clear and easy to read even as a small thumbnail?

  • Does the contrast between the background and the text make the design pop?

  • Is the illustration interesting or unique?

The children’s back book cover is just as important as the front, sharing key details about the book and the author.

2. Does the cover clearly show the book’s topic?

A strong kids book cover should instantly give readers a hint about the story or theme. Consider questions like:

  • Does the title include the main keyword or phrase related to the topic?

  • Do the images and style feel appropriate for the age group of the readers?

By studying successful covers in this way, you can learn what works well and apply those ideas when designing your own children’s book cover.
